Collection Defense & Debt Settlement

We are experienced in resolving debt issues.  There are four ways to solve any debt: bankruptcy, litigation, settlement, or pre-litigation options, such as a payment plan.  For each client and debt, we look at available options and help provide you with feasible options, so you can make the best decision for your particular financial circumstaces.

On the flip side of the same coin, responsibly seeking to be paid monies loaned or owed is essential to any business. Debt collection practices are subject to several Federal guidelines, and following those guidelines can save business fines, while still working to get you paid or re-paid. Personal loans to friends or faily should also be repaid; dont be taken advantage of and make sure you are given what you have earned or are owed.

Credit Card debt can quickly get out of hand, especially considering the current economic climate and job insecurity. Relying on credit to carry you through the tough times is not abnormal, but when interest rates grow larger than the credit limit on the card, many people find that they simply cannot keep up with minimum payments. Collections calls and letters flooding your inbox can be intimidating and overwhelming. Talking to an attorney experienced in collections defense can ease a lot of anxiety, and there are plenty of proactive ways to ‘stop the bleeding’ and even reduce the astronomical interest. Many collections companies offer large discounts on debt owed, making gradual payment plans and settlement agreements realistic options for those struggling to keep up. Other unscrupulous collections companies violate statutes, attempt to collect debt outside of the statute of limitations (often called ‘Zombie Debt’) or fail to provide proper introductory warnings, such as the ‘Mini Miranda’, which notifies you that the call is an attempt to collect the debt and that the call may be recorded/ information obtained may be used for the purpose of collecting debt. These naughty collections firms may face BIG fines when counterclaimed, and an attorney experienced in collections can help you identify if you have the right to sue. Being aware of your rights, opportunities and options are all incredibly powerful assets to have on your side when defending collections proceedings.
You should be paid for work you perform; period. Nobody works for free and when customers stiff you, you can be left holding a bill for supplies purchased or cash advanced on behalf of work done for that customer. Being paid for your time, efforts and talents is part of being a professional, and clients who utilize your services should pay your bill the same as they would if it were an electric bill. When clients and customers fail to make payments, sending demands and filing suit for reimbursement are available option, but you must always be careful not to violate the statutes and rules for collections, or else you may find yourself in hot water. Let an attorney who understands case law and the statutes aid in your repayment. Obtaining and executing on judgments can be tricky, and your best bet for being paid back plus interests, fees and costs is to use a knowledgeable attorney.
It is incredibly common for those who have helped out friends and family members with short term loans, which were expected to be repaid, to be left in a lurch. Oral agreements as well as written agreements for loan repayment are enforceable, and it would be unjust for a party you helped out in a tight spot to suddenly disappear, sticking you with the consequences of your kindness. There are fair and amicable ways to negotiate repayment, in addition to litigation; an experienced attorney can guide you through your options and assist everyone involved in reaching mutually beneficial conclusions to sometimes uncomfortable discussion. Making sure that repayment schedules are legally enforceable and that you have a back-up plan in case of a default from the repaying party are all elements of personal loan repayment that should be considered, and a collections attorney can help you navigate your options.

Client Testimonials

“Lauren has been an absolute life saver in creating my business. I had hired several other attorney’s and as a new business I was being treated as just that. I decided to let Lauren give me a second opinion and it wound up being the best decision for us! Not only were her fees more reasonable, she did more in two weeks that I had received in months from others. Thank you is an understatement and I will refer and recommend her for anyone needing help with business contracts or agreements."

“Knowledgeable, caring and professional.
Nichole Turner helped with my grandparents’ Power of Attorny recently. She made my family and I feel very cared for and was amazing with my aging relatives. Her work was so thoughtful and thorough that my family and I were very clear on all aspects of the process. I would only use Ms. Turner in the future..”

Ms. Turner recently represented my rescue organization and I’m so incredibly thankful for her. My fellow volunteers are so incredibly thankful for her, as well. She listened intently during our first conversation as I cried and explained what was happening, she talked me through panic attacks, and gave me detailed explanations regarding what she was going to do for my organization and why.
It was rare that Ms. Turner didn’t answer when I called or didn’t respond to a text almost right away. If she missed my call or text, she called me back or responded to my text in about 30 minutes or less. Knowing she’d absolutely get back to me as soon as she could was comforting. She NEVER made me feel like speaking to me often was bothersome and ALWAYS made me feel like defending my organization was very important. She was encouraging and put my mind at ease with her strength as an attorney.
Ms. Turner is so passionate about what she does and obviously works hard for her clients. I HIGHLY recommend her!

200%! Absolutely! I recommend L. Turner Law! A competent sharp motivated professional. Compassionate, but tough! I’m a registered nurse that struggles with a serious disability, PTSD. I have been harassed and targeted by the HOA regarding my service dog, who happens to have her own struggles as a senior former shelter dumped overly bred dog with a few disabilities too, namely Lupus, and back and neck problems that cause her gait to wobble and she falls often. We’re both helping each other cope, care, heal, and are supporting one another. Complicated case, many details, but L. Turner LAW is quick to figure out the correct legal action and implements it quickly. Fair pricing. And most importantly, L. Turner Law truly cares about animals and related injustices! I’ve had to hire a handful of attorneys in my lifetime, she is by far above and beyond what I could ever hope for. So grateful to have her on my side!
